CNB Employee & Branch Receive Chamber Awards
2/25/2008
CAMDEN, Maine - On February 23, 2008, The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce honored Camden National Bank employee Jack Williams with their Person of the Year Award for his longtime commitment to the vitality of the Rockland business community and local nonprofit organizations. The Chamber also recognized Camden National Bank at the Spear Block with their Commercial Building Renovation & Conversion Award.
A dedicated employee with more than 25 years of service with Camden National Bank, Jack has helped numerous business start-ups - from lobstermen to major Midcoast employers - which have contributed to the economic vitality in the area. Jack continues his commercial lending and business development activities from the bank’s Rockland-based Spear Block branch, which he was instrumental in renovating. Jack joined Camden National in 1982 as a commercial loan officer. He was named a senior vice president in 1994 and assumed responsibility for the bank's charitable giving program in 2005. A past president of the Rockland-Thomaston Chamber of Commerce, Jack serves on the board of Penquis Cap and the Riley School. He serves as president and youth coach for the Maine Coast Skaters Association. Jack is also a member of the Rockland Rotary Club and the Finance Committee for the Atlantic Challenge.
Jack was also at the forefront for implementing the bank's extensive renovation efforts at the Spear Block on Main Street. Begun in July 2006, the $5 million privately funded renovation of the Spear Block Building involved extensive work with local contractors and municipal and community support. In March 2007, the bank relocated the Rockland branch to the renovated Spear Block to better serve current and future customers in the greater Rockland community as well as support revitalization in the area. Predominantly used as a home to various small commercial businesses in the past, the Spear Block today remains a commercial landmark for visitors traveling along Route 1 into the heart of Rockland and a model for future development efforts in the downtown.
Camden National Bank President and CEO Gregory Dufour said, "We are honored by the Chamber's recognition of our commitment to serve the Rockland business community. Such recognition demonstrates the impact of our efforts to create economic activity and access through our people and branch locations. Jack's contributions to his community represent our responsibility to help businesses succeed, and we are pleased that he has been recognized for a lifetime of commitment."
